“The Mother of All Picnics”

For those of you that weren't able to attend, we had a wonderful picnic on the Canal at Jerry and Carolyn Shimek's vacation home at "Stetsons" on the 1st of August.  Many thanks to Jerry and Carolyn for being generous and fantastic hosts.  And thank you to the many classmates who assisted in making this happen.  The 42 people who attended enjoyed a beautiful day, quality burgers, dogs & oysters from the BBQ, great side dishes brought by attendees, and most importantly a relaxed atmosphere for leisurely visiting with classmates.  The day ended all to quickly.  The good news is Jerry says "Let's do this again!"

Aug 1, 2011.  The past 5 years have flown by for me.  For the last three years, I've been super involved with a Border College College in Red Bluff, CA.  I started training there with my original border collie to get her ready to work on our ranch, but ended up training for herding trials that are held on the west coast every month or so...  I bought a beautiful black and white Missouri Fox Trotter gelding to use in the trials.  Remington was amazing and I always felt he was taking care of me.  I was fortunate to have such a strong bond with my dog and my horse.   Next, I needed a living quarters horse trailer to haul my horse and dog and stay in at workshops and trials.  I got everything ready and three weeks before my first dog/cattle trial, my two year old Border Collie, Ms. Emma, died suddenly.  It has been so hard without her, but I kept training  and herding on my beautiful horse, Remington.  I found another dog this spring and just got started training when my horse went down with colic and I had to put him down.  So here I am with a fabulous horse trailer, and an amazing Border Collie and i find myslef needing a break from it all.  It has been the best  four years and the worst nine months of my life.  So I have taken the summer off from training and i've been working hard in our yard, which is like good therapy for me....  IT LOOKS LIKE A PARK!  (Amazing what happens when you stay at home once in awhile!)

Fred and I have been fortunate to enjoy good health, so we continue to live on our ranch where we raise black Angus cattle.  We will be shipping calves to market next week, so we have a few busy days ahead.

Looking forward to seeing all of you and catching up on your past five years.
